The Vinaròs City Council becomes part of the group of administrations, organizations and companies that make up the Voluntary Carbon Footprint Registry at the national level, in order to participate in the fight against climate change.
The consistory has collaborated with our organization to calculate and present to the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC) the Carbon Footprint of the Local Government corresponding to the year 2020.
This carbon footprint is the indicator that shows the greenhouse gas emissions of an organization through the use and transformation of energy from fossil fuels, as well as obtaining electrical energy.
For this, we have carried out the sampling of the activities in municipal headquarters and dependencies, in addition to the municipal operational vehicles, resulting in the total emission of 224.32 tons of CO2, which translates into an index of 7.78. kg of Co2/inhabitant.
With the approval of the calculation of the carbon footprint by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, the City Council has the identification record of the calculation, which is granted to each organization that measures the climate effect of its activities.
This accreditation has three certificates, corresponding first to the calculation, second to the reduction of the carbon footprint, which can be achieved after registering four consecutive carbon footprints, thus achieving a reduction compared to the emissions of the first year calculated, and, Finally, the third compensation, which establishes the emissions that the organization compensates for the emissions that are difficult to reduce. Through this validation, the council will continue with the objective of reducing emissions and improving the environmental sustainability of the organization.
